665,000

In the only scientifically done estimate of the deaths of Iraqi citizens the Bloomberg School of Public Health at John Hopkins University found that 665000 Iraqis have died since this country’s illegal invasion of their country. This number was quickly dismissed by the administration and soon this story went the way of all the other stories about this nightmare of the Bush administration, no where.

I would like anyone considering voting for a Republican or Democrat that supports this President on November 7th to think about what if the shoe was on the other foot. Suppose we Americans were suddenly proclaimed to be part of an Axis of Evil. A society that was purported to have WMD all the while proclaiming its innocence. Imagine that our country was being occupied by a foreign Muslim army. On streets all across America there were Muslims carrying assault rifles shooting innocent Americans that happen to cross the occupiers path because they don’t want to take the chance that that American might be plotting to shoot them or blow up an IED. What if you were driving down your street in your hometown and one of those foreign occupiers shot you or your loved one in their car because they didn’t slow down quick enough to satisfy the guard on duty. Imagine that your freedoms were curtailed and you were told when you could safely walk down your street and when you had to be home. Imagine if while driving down the street a foreign contractor was shooting at your car and a videotape of the incident was shown on Al Jazeera to a musical soundtrack while the contractors laugh with their associates Imagine being an innocent citizen picked up off the street thrown in jail and tortured. Imagine if you or your loved one was injured in this war and you went to your local hospital to be treated and you were left to die because since there is only 6 hours of electricity the doctors at the hospital can only treat the people who have a 70% chance of survival. If you were lucky enough not to be injured imagine what it would be like living with only 4-6 hours of electricity. Imagine what it would be to live in a desert and have trouble finding clean water to drink. Imagine that roads, schools, hospitals are blown apart and not rebuilt. Imagine if you are a woman living in a secular USA before the occupation and three years after the invasion your rights are being stripped just because of your sex. You are told what to wear and are now afraid to go out in public alone. Imagine if after the invasion your security forces are disbanded., militias roam your neighborhood killing anyone who doesn’t view God the way you do and foreign terrorist flood into your city trying to kill anyone Imagine if these terrorists were using your country to train other terrorists. Imagine if bombs were dropped from the air and that cancer causing chemicals were used against American citizens. Imagine that your counrty has devolved into a chaos so severe that reporters can’t even report what is going on in most of the country. Imagine if the violence brought by the Muslim occupiers caused the USA to break out in a civil war. Imagine that we were told that we would have democracy but when a leader is elected democratically we were told that the occupiers didn’t approve of our choice so we had to vote all over again

We here in America mourn the deaths of our service men and women lost in Iraq but I believe too little attention is paid to the devastation that this unnecessary war has done to the people of Iraq. They asked for none of this. The one thing they have asked of us is to leave which happens to be the one thing our President is resolved not to do. We Americans can not undue the evil but we can stop it. November 7th is our chance. I can’t imagine us not taking it.
